Ashaman Gray

My work lives at the intersection of movement, health, awareness, and relationship, on land and in water.

For over 20 years, I’ve explored how intelligent movement, strength, and presence can support healing, resilience, and a deeper sense of connection to the body.

A Path Shaped by Movement & Awareness

My path has been shaped by a long exploration of movement, awareness, and the relationship between body and environment, both on land and in water.

I come from a background that weaves together martial arts, postural movement awareness, strength training, and bodywork. Over time, this led me to explore how movement can support not only physical capacity, but also listening, presence, and self-regulation.

In 1999, my first training in aquatic bodywork opened a new dimension of this exploration. Working in warm water revealed a different quality of movement, fluid, responsive, and deeply supportive, that naturally complemented my land-based practice.

Over the years, I have continued to study, practice, and teach a wide range of movement and bodywork approaches, integrating strength, mobility, breath, and awareness into a holistic and adaptable practice. This ongoing integration forms the foundation of my work today.

Healing Dance

Healing Dance integrates movement, presence, and relational awareness within the supportive environment of warm water.

I currently teach Healing Dance trainings and workshops in the United States, Europe, Israel, India, and Spain, and I am one of a small group of instructors who certify Healing Dance Practitioners.

The trainings I offer include:

  • Introduction to Healing Dance
  • Healing Dance 1 & 2
  • Relating & Mirroring
  • Healing Dance Underwater Basics
  • Shape & Space

My teaching emphasises safety, sensitivity, and deep listening, allowing each person’s experience to unfold naturally.

Strength, Fitness, & Sustainable Movement

Alongside my aquatic work, I am a certified personal trainer and licensed massage therapist, with over two decades of experience in Eastern and Western bodywork.

Through Fit For Life, I guide people toward sustainable strength, mobility, and long-term health. My approach supports joint integrity, intelligent progression, and training that enhances life rather than consuming it.

This work draws from:

  • Strength and functional training
  • Corrective exercise and joint “bulletproofing”
  • Breath, awareness, and movement education

Whether working with athletes, people recovering from injury, or older adults, the intention is always the same: capable, resilient movement for life.

Beyond the Studio

Outside of teaching and training, I am a very active father, deeply curious about breath and martial arts, and a dedicated student of both classical and flamenco guitar.

I have also worked as a climbing arborist in the tall trees of Hawaii, an experience that further shaped my understanding of movement, balance, and respect for natural forces.

These varied paths all inform my work, bringing together strength and softness, structure and fluidity, discipline and play.

An Ongoing Practice

My work continues to evolve through practice, teaching, and listening, to the body, to the water, and to the people I work with.

Whether we meet on land or in water, I look forward to working together.
